How to Finish HYROX Under 90 Minutes
Sub-90 is the goal of most committed amateur athletes. Roughly the top 25-30% of Open-division finishers — strong evidence the athlete has trained HYROX-specifically rather than just running.
Source: HYROX public race results 2024-2025; the 90-minute mark falls near the top quartile of typical Open-division fields.

Station capacity
100 wall balls in 4-5 sets; sled push at race weight with 1-2 resets; functional strength across all stations
What You Need to Train
- Build running base first — most athletes plateau at 90 minutes because of run fitness, not station strength
- Train one full rotation simulation every 2-3 weeks to expose your real-world transition cost
- Wall-ball capacity is the most common limiter — practice 40-50 rep sets after run intervals
- Sled work should be done at race weight with full rest, then later under fatigue
The Three Mistakes That Cost Sub-90 Athletes Their Time
- 1Treating it like a CrossFit metcon — HYROX rewards sustained aerobic pace, not surge-and-recover effort
- 2Avoiding burpee broad jumps in training because they're awful — they're the single most variable station and reward the athletes who trained them
- 3Pacing Runs 1-2 too fast because they feel easy — every 10 seconds saved here costs 30+ seconds on Runs 6-8
